Ruby's doing okay today, still needs lots of support from the ventilator but other wise she's looking pretty good. A bit cranky, which is understandable.
At today's morning rounds we talked about quite a bit, but nothing huge. I made bullet points since there isn't a ton to wrap my head around today:
- New mattress so she won't slide down so much when she wiggles around.
- Different antibiotics to target the specific bacteria- broad spectrum antibiotics weren't touching the bacteria she has. We're hopeful this will make a difference for her.
- Continue antifungals.
- May do a bowel irrigations to take some pressure off her tummy (keep swallowing air). She's pooped a couple times but still pretty bloated and her tummy is firm.
- More holding and doing some massages to calm her and help move circulation and fluid around more.
- Swabbing her mouth with some breast milk on a q-tip.
- They are talking about a tracheostomy tube to ventilate if we can't get her off the regular tube. This way she'd still be ventilated but be able to move around more while her lungs and heart continue to recover. This is not happening for sure, but an option they want to talk about in case it looks like the best option down the road.
- Had another x-ray to assess how her lungs and belly are doing, not much change. Her right lung seems to be wetter than her left which showed up on her last x-ray as well.
Our plan is to snuggle a lot this weekend and hope to see some movement of that lung fluid and see some better sats soon. She's getting used to the drugs she's on so it's a bit harder to keep her comfortable. Please continue to pray that things will turn around and we'll see some improvement soon!
