Day 22

· Ruby's IWK Journey

Written by Thomas

Ruby had a quiet night. Her nurse said there was no more drama after we went to bed.

Today the plan is to take her off propofol (sedative) to allow her to wiggle a bit more (but not too much). With that off they should also be able to wean off the epinephrine (propofol lowers blood pressure and epi increases it) and get a good balance for her blood pressure.

They got more tests back about the bacteria causing her infection and are discontinuing one of the wide spectrum antibiotics that isn't going to touch it. She is still on a targeted anti-biotic and a wide spectrum antifungal (for yeast they had found).

The goal for today is to let Ruby rest, so no holding and minimal handling. We like to hold her, but she needs to fight off this infection.

She is fully on the ventilator now, they had started out with 100% oxygen and weaned it down to 70%. That's better than before when she was on 100%, and her oxygen saturation has been sitting around the high 80s, low 90s this morning/though the night.

Now she just needs to get rid of this infection so she can start weaning off things again.
