Probably our quietest day yet.
Ruby did lots of resting today, she is getting better oxygen sats most of the time (85-92) and she seems to be feeling better! She slept a lot, but did have moments where she was pretty awake/alert and wiggled around. They took off her propofol sedation this morning and just kept her on midazolam for the time being and haven't had to seriously increase her dose, which is good. She is at 75% O2 on the vent with some higher pressure to help her lungs out while she recovers from this bug. This annoyed her at times, as she kept trying to breath on her own (which she is okay to do) but obviously feels different than the ventilation support she has been getting the past few days.
The antibiotics seem to be working their magic. Still getting lots of secretions from her lungs when they suction, but they are a better colour now and not as thick.
We've been able to avoid the vasopressin- cardiology was kinda pushing for them to put her on it this morning, but we were concerned it would slow down her gut again - so far they've been able to wean back her epinephrine a good amount and have avoided putting her back on the vaso because her BP has only dipped a few times. Hopefully that continues to work out.
It looks like it will be a quiet night with no changes, expect maybe taking her O2 down on the vent if possible. Once she's recovered from this bug then we'll do another trial to get her weaned off the vent, but it may be a few more days of rest before she'll be ready.
Her nurses have got pretty invested in her care, they all know her and some of them have lost sleep over her and have started sending messages to each other to ask how she's doing. They are really wonderful, it helps to know she's getting such great care.
She is very peaceful tonight, hoping it will continue!
Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts and love for our sweet Ruby. ❤️🩹🫁🏥
