Day 65

· Ruby's IWK Journey

Written by Thomas

Update #1: 10:04AM - Charlotte #

Hi all, Ruby had been doing well with corking trials, so yesterday ENT got us to cork her at 2 with the goal of corking for as long as she could tolerate or up to 24-48hrs. She is still corked now, and has been able to cough to clear her airway and she slept overnight with it and keep her SATs up- any dips seemed to be due to her position. If she makes it to 2pm today, then the nurse will let ENT know so they can write an order to have the trach removed!

Please keep praying, we are feeling hopeful this morning! ❤️

I came home with Lizzie yesterday and Tom has taken some leave so he can be with Ruby for a bit.

Update #2: 10:44AM - Thomas #

Just a quick update, cardiology wanted to see if the decannulation could happen earlier than 2:00 so there will be more day shift time after. So the nurse talked to ENT and they are very happy with her progress and are good with an early teach removal! RT and the nurse are going to do it some time between 12:00 and 2:00, after she gets some blood taken.

Please be praying it goes well, we are happy but nervous! She's doing amazing but change is scary.

Oh, and they've decided to put her on full fat breast milk (instead of 50% skim breast milk and 50% portagen) today! Quite ahead of the June 16th schedule due to not enough weight gain and the difficulty of fortifying her current mixture. (Fortifying meaning making it more calorie dense).
